Web Program Languages
With all of the different types of programs out there in the field of web development, I thought it might be a good idea to list the popular languages and descriptions with links to their main websites. I am currently taking a Javascript class at St. Pete College, but am working on adding to my knowledge in other programs to stay ahead… This is fairly easy for someone to do by practicing and studying the following sites.
Javascript
JavaScript is an object-oriented scripting language used to enable programmatic access to objects within both the client application and other applications. It is primarily used in the form of client-side JavaScript, implemented as an integrated component of the web browser, allowing the development of enhanced user interfaces and dynamic websites.
ASP.NET
ASP.NET is a web application framework developed and marketed by Microsoft to allow programmers to build dynamic web sites, web applications and web services. It was first released in January 2002 with version 1.0 of the .NET Framework, and is the successor to Microsoft’s Active Server Pages (ASP) technology.
Ruby on Rails
Ruby on Rails, often shortened to Rails or RoR, is an open source web application framework for the Ruby programming language. It is intended to be used with an Agile development methodology that is used by web developers for rapid development.
PHP
PHP, or PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor, is a widely used, general-purpose scripting language that was originally designed for web development, to produce dynamic web pages. It can be embedded into HTML and generally runs on a web server, which needs to be configured to process PHP code and create web page content from it.

Hi there. I would stick to WordPress. That’s what I use most of the time and a serious update is right around the corner (within the next month) with a lot of great new features. I am planning on posting about it soon
Hey – nice blog, just looking around some blogs, seems a pretty nice platform you are using. I’m currently using WordPress for a few of my sites but looking to change one of them over to a platform similar to yours as a trial run. Anything in particular you would recommend about it?
While this subject can be very touchy for most people, my opinion is that there has to be a middle or common ground that we all can find. I do appreciate that youve added relevant and intelligent commentary here though. Thank you!
That is some inspirational stuff. Never knew that opinions could be this varied. Thanks for all the enthusiasm to offer such helpful information here.
I have been visiting variousblogs for my dissertation study. I have found your blog to be fairlybeneficial. Keep updating your blog with usefulinformation… Regards
Finding websites with as much information as this one is always a pleasure I wll be sure to come back and visit again real soon, keep up the good work.
This is my first time i visit here. I found so many interesting stuff in your blog especially its discussion. From the tons of comments on your articles, I guess I am not the only one having all the enjoyment here! keep up the good work.
Yea,
Thanks!
Well, if you are just starting out, all you really need is Photoshop (or GIMP if you need it free) to make the images and Dreamweaver for the code. Other helpful sites that have tutorials and other sources that I check almost daily are:
Smashing Magazine
Six Revisions
HV Designs
Noupe
YOu might also want to join a forum, to ask random questions you might get stuck on or advice on projects. Hope that helps!
Thanx Julie,
I will be looking into JavaScript myself shortly. I am a newcomer to web development and I am curious how you created those websites of yours. I mean which applications did you use, if you dont mind me asking. Graphics:Photoshop, Fireworks, Illustrator…?? Website-side:Dreamweaver, Javascript, PHP, WordPress…?? Theres so many ways one can create these sites and like I mentioned before, I like your work and would like to know what ingredients you used to bake your “tasty cakes”….;-)
Hello Martin,
Thanks for your comment! I have recently had to put my schooling on hold, but would have to say that Javascript is a great language to learn (and my favorite right now). There’s still a lot of it I do not fully understand and being strictly a designer type person for most of my professional years, I’d have to say it’s very difficult to grasp the language side of website design (pls note: when I mentioned it was fairly easy to learn thru websites, I meant if you have the time to spend learning them! h a ha)… But I think once you master a language, it gets easier to learn the other ones, much like a spoken language
Hi Julie, nice creations, i like very much.
I see you studied graphic design and now web dev.
Which programs would you say are most important to you
in your quest to develop a good website, if you had to
choose only a few. I know there is many out there but
which do you regard as your “favourite”.
Thank you so much for leaving a comment! I never know who is really getting use out of or viewing my site. I promise to continue bringing useful information
I wanted to put this article in here for reference to all of the most popular programs because there are so many and I’m pretty new to the “coding” field. I’ve been strictly design up to this point and I’m so excited to start mastering the coding languages. Thanks again! ~Julie
Wow, great site! I love reading web sites about development. I really like what you wrote in this post, and some of your other articles are interesting. I saw an article online the other day about what languages earn the most. It’s such an exciting area. I don’t have time to read everything here, I found your site while looking for something else on Google. But I’ve bookmarked your homepage and will visit it regularly to read what’s new. Thanks again for a very informative site! Visit my site if you’d like to read more.
Ha ha. No, it’s not a secret. I am located in the Tampa Bay area. It says so on my homepage
Where are you from? Is it a secret?
Thank you
